Architecture Notes

  • Null / empty fields are automatically stripped from all payloads — fields with null , undefined or “” values are not included.
  • Deduplication — the Theme App Block waits 500 ms after page load and skips any event already emitted by the Custom Pixel within the last 1.5 s.
  • Checkout events ( begin_checkout through purchase ) are fired exclusively by the Custom Pixel, which has access to Shopify’s checkout context.
  • Storefront events ( page_view through view_cart ) can be fired by both sources; the Custom Pixel takes priority.
  • ecommerce: null is pushed to the dataLayer before each ecommerce event to clear the previous ecommerce object, following Google’s GA4 recommendation.
  • page_view does not include an ecommerce object.
